Pastel Perfection

Both of these dresses stood out to me last night at The Academy Awards. Ironically, they were both pastel lace, yet that's not surprising as it was a huge trend on the red carpet. I not only love the dresses themselves, but the girls wearing them are equally fabulous. Bravo ladies.

Oscar Fever

So today I would like to pretend that I am Rachel Zoe and choose what I think the lead actresses should wear to today's Oscars.

I'd love to see Michelle Williams in something like this (Elie Saab)

For Natalie Portman and her expected (Alexis Mabille)

Annette Bening would totally pull this Elie Saab look off

I think Jennifer Lawrence would wow in this dress

With Nicole Kidman's complexion and hair, this Elie Saab gown would be fab

P.S. If I am Love doesn't win for best costume design, there will be angry shouts targeted towards the TV.

"Nature is a language-can't you read?"

Apologies for my hiatus this week! Large amounts of homework, life and miscellaneous things got in the way, so as a result, my eyes have been half mast and I am just now recovering. So it's finally the weekend, thank the higher power. Here's what's floating around in my head right now. Oh and the Oscars are tommorow. . .so looking forward to watching them and consuming obscene amounts of hors'd oeuvres.

Gotta love Morrissey.

It's official, turbans are everywhere. I absolutely love all of these bright ones paired with the classic bathing suits and bold jewelry. It's sheer perfection.

CK

I've always been a huge Calvin fan, especially after wearing one of his dresses to prom last year (seen here) , and this years fall collection was no exception. His pieces are all about fine details and beautiful fabrics, keeping everything simple but very unique at the same time. My favorites are the bottom two dresses.

One Tribe

My friend got me this necklace in Ghana last year when she was studying abroad and I surprisingly wear it all the time. Hand beaded and painted, this red and pink necklace is such a privilege to own and wear and something that I hope to keep forever. Big chunky tribal necklaces have become one of my favorite trends right now, making any simple top that much more polished and unique while still staying casual. For those of us who are not models and are not 5'10'' (yes, I barely reach 5'6'') wearing bright and eye catching pieces like these really elongate the neck and can make anyone look taller. If you want to avoid the high prices of jewelry designers, my friend recently got one identical to my Ghanian piece from none other than Cost Plus World Market. Who would have thought.

Arizonian

So I know this is kind of old news, but I'm just going to join along with the chorus and express my newly formed girl crush with model Arizona Muse. This girl has done literally everything recently, having major spreads in Vogue US, France, and Spain along with countless ads for Prada and YSL to name just a few, no big deal. Muse has walked for Valetino, Chanel, and Ellie Saab couture, moving away from the airbrushed world of photography and showing how truly breathtaking she is on the runway. She is taking the world by storm AND has a little baby boy she had at the age of 19 who is probably the most beautiful child I have ever seen. She is super easy to spot in case you haven't noticed her, the eyebrows are on another level of thickness, I only wish I could grow mine to be that strong and powerful. FYI penciling them in like this does not look very natural, I've tried.
Happy friday,
G

Obsessed with this Prada video for the Spring 2011 line. She is, of course, in it and dancing like a champ.

This Charming Man

Apologies for the lull! Unfortunatley I will not be able to make up for it since I'm off to a winter getaway with the girls this weekend with no wi-fi but I'm sure Gabriella will provide you with more than enough scinitilating posts. I leave you with this impeccable man. . .

Ingenious pattern mixing with his polka-dot tie and checkered shirt. The glasses. The coat. Sigh.

Chloe (with the necessary accent)

Maybe it's just because yesterday was Valentines day and I'm feeling extra girly, but seriously today I want nothing more than to be dressed head to toe in Chloé. I see so many pieces in magazines, on blogs, and in stores that I absolutely love and later find out are Chloé, that I have realized, through this roundabout way, it is one of my all time favorite brands. It's so undeniably feminine but in the chicest and most empowering way that I can not help but want to buy it all. So simple and clean, Chloé makes you proud to be a woman. (Below are just some of my favorite pieces I've seen here and there.)

chloe love

Obviously the four dresses are my favorites, but look at the shoes & shorts. I would take on the world in that combo any day. Along with the sunnies in their appropriate cream cat eye shape of course.
This recent ad is just beyond enticing.

V is for Violetta

I really enjoy the idea of having an alter ego. Valentine's Day seems a good enough occasion to have one as any other. My alter ego shall be named Violetta and she shall have lots of dark wavy hair. She will live in Williamsburg in New York and ultimatley be inherently cool. She will work at Opening Ceremony, attend coffee shop poetry readings, travel the globe frequently, and simultaneously write for really respected magazines/newspapers. But most importantly. . . .she shall own/wear/bask in the glory of this dress.

Jason Wu (Sorry I keep talking about how great his stuff his-unavoidable)

I actually don't know if the proverbial Violetta would wear something like this because I don't know any Violettas but bear with me. This dress is also $1,127 at discount. Yeah, I forgot to mention Violetta is also a gazillionaire.

Back to the dress. The sheer yoke, bar pattern on the corset, rich detailing at the waist and vivid purple skirt all mesh into one completely luxe, completely sigh-worthy look.

Hope you enjoyed today's venture into fantasy-land. Happy V-Day!

Jill

So I'm following Marisa's post about FW runway favorites with my own. By far my favorite from yesterday has to be Jill Stuart (see the entire collection here), I had such difficulties trying to find only 6 of my favorite pieces to post because I loved the entire thing so much. Stuart uses a color pallet of black, teal, brown, and red to coincide with metallic bright hues to create an enchanted forest meets polished city feel, always staying true to her ultra feminine aesthetic.  Jill Stuart creates a collection in a way that many designers can only dream of, finding that fine line between wearability and the "runway only" feel, thus making her pieces pure perfection. I can see myself wearing every single one of these.

Wonderous Wu

I know it seems like all I do on this blog is talk about how obsessed I am with that shoe, this look etc. but today gushing is absolutely necessary. Two. Words. Jason Wu. Fall 2011Oh. My. Good. Gracious. Lord. He's known for uber-polished and feminine and these looks are no exception.

Flattering and flighty (feathers? it was a pun)
Such a brilliant indigo/blue

The sheer lace! the belt!

Four Things

It's friday everybody, and I couldn't be in a better mood. I got back from Chicago last night, and I wish I had never left. I scored some of the greatest purchases on Michigan Ave. in an attempt to dull the pain in my heart that comes from not being at NY Fashion Week (it didn't dull that pain, in case you were wondering). My friends and I are celebrating Valentines day tonight with some pink and red/chocolate box festivities and though my lack of a valentine is somewhat of a downer, I do enjoy celebrating all of the love and happiness I have in my life regardless.
ANYWAYS back to the point of this post, here are some of my february favorites.
-g
Skyline from Lakeshore Drive in Chicago (please note how Chicago has the word Chic in it. Need I say more?). I snapped this as I drove by yesterday afternoon in a cab, took my breath away.
The detailing on this dress I bought from Zara this week. The embroidery runs along the bottom, down the sides, and on the sleeves so delicately. I always love pieces with little details that are only visible really close up, they give you something to really appreciate..
I am required to wear red or pink to this V-Day party tonight, and I could think only of this ad when deciding what to wear. So joyful and care free in Sisley spring 2011. I know that LBDs are essential, and I'm beginning to think LRDs are as well.
Just perusing Mr. Newton's posts for the day and spotted a favorite familiar face. I'm pretty sure either Marisa or I mention Leandra at least once a day, but she is truly our roll model of bloggerhood. So man repellant and fabulous in her magenta pants, furry jacket, leather sleeves, and glasses. Fashion Week is getting into full swing, cannot wait to see what is to come.

Amigas

Since Gabriella is off in chilly Chicago I am taking over for another day and today I would like to spotlight a group of females that continually inspire me, annoy me, make me laugh, and are beautiful inside and out. I know what you're thinking, don't be so gushy. . .but for reals these kids are the best.

A creative take on our school uniforms

This is what pep rallies look like at our school

Getting crazy with our boxers

Just another day on the West Coast

No words to express my love for these kids

Here's a song that reminds me of the girls and all of the shenanigans we get into.

(On a more sartorial note, how much do you love the eyeliner, silver bangles and white polyester jumpsuits?)

Hope you enjoyed my entirely irrelevant (but totally necessary) friend side note!
