Past the Flashing Lights

On one of the best Memorial Day weekends I've had in forever, my girlie friends and I headed up to Arrowhead to enjoy the sun (a little too much. . . we resemble lobsters) and chill out. This weekend I totally appreciated being able to drive a mere 2 hours to fully experience true California. Despite my best intentions to pack decently stylish options, I sadly remained sartorially offensive for almost the whole weekend. Dare I say it, sometimes it is better to throw caution to the wind and walk around in a bathing suit (among close friends, please. . .I'm not advocating public partial nudity here)

Not a trip with my friends unless there is some Arnold Palmer Arizona involved

The Millionaire, The Mansion, The Yacht

Got these sandals on sale at urban yesterday. Completely in love and obsessed with the color. Pretty sure I will be wearing them every day of summer. I graduate high school in 11 days, could not be more thrilled. Happy Memorial Day!

Girly Revisited

After seeing these pristine pointy-toed heels on Cupcakes and Cashmere a little piece of my inner 6 year old kind of melted, and the frugal lady in me melted even more when I realized that they were from Gap.
Gap, I tell you!

At $125, they may not break the bank check them out  here

I love the nude ones, but I've decided that I like this less conventional color combination more. The classic pointed toe would pair perfectly with pants to immediately add polish while a breezy summer dress would work equally as well.

This song was an instant fave. . .if it's an instant love for you too, check out Cold War by them as well

QUEEN B

Amaze photos of my favorite GG star Leighton Meester. People tend to obsess over Serena (for those few who still watch Gossip Girl religiously like I do), but Blair has always been my favorite girl. These breathe taking looks all incorporate color blocking, chunky jewelry, and fierce brows... seriously couldn't get any better.

East Coast > West Coast (just because Leandra lives there)

I cannot attempt to explain my envy for all of the flamingos who got to meet/greet the one and only Leandra Medine of http://www.manrepeller.com/ and watch her style mannequins right before their eyes. Alas. . . this little behind-the-scenes video is a small consolation prize for us west coasters.

Industrial Encounters

As Gabby has mentioned, Saturday afternoon was filled with wanderings, musings and pictures. (I'm about to launch into an anecdote which you may or may not find entertaining) When we meandered over to another location to take some more photos, we quickly realized that we had stumbled upon a wedding that had either just ended or was about to start. As we scuttled off, one of the groomsmen asked Gabby (who was carrying her camera) if she was the photographer. We abruptly and awkwardly replied with a no, after which we drove away rather quickly. Do I have an explanation for this groomsman's attempt at humor? Possibly a pre-wedding buzz? I'm not sure of the words of a man wearing a pink vest can be taken seriously.

Awkward encounters aside, here is the ever gorgeous Gabby in my mother's classic Gap denim jacket, her perfect multi-tasking heels and my recent find: a maxi H & M dress which I know I will be wearing all summer.

Spring Saturdays

Marisa and I have definitely been lacking in our personal style photos lately, but we finally got a chance to redeem ourselves somewhat this weekend and spent a few hours on saturday wearing our fave pieces, eating gelato, and discussing life in our usual nonsensical way (and of course taking pictures). Here, Marisa wears a perfect Madewell dress that is classic and feminine in the front while at the same time being flirty and detailed on the back. I love the cut on the sleeves and the color combo/print that is perfect for this spring, it's truly a unique twist on the popular florals that are everywhere right now.
We both own these shoes... from Target. I practically live in mine, they truly are the most perfect wedges.

All. I. Listen. To. (periods in between for dramatic effect)

Maxi[mum] Chic

This spring the maxi skirt has made its official comeback. I am completely obsessed with how comfortable it is while at the same time looking so chic and put together. If worn like a hippie, it can be a bit tacky, but when made of tasteful fabrics in solid colors and refined prints the maxi is a must. I added some of my favorite glasses/tops/bag picks for this spring as well.

be expecting some new goodies next week, Marisa and I will be hard at work this weekend :)

Orangina

Although I don't always like to answer the favorite color question, when I do it is often orange. Though often associated with traffic cones or fruit, I think this editorial does an excellent job of showcasing the more refined and luxe side of this (in my humble opinion) underestimated color.

Obviously Obsessing

Don't you just love finding bloggers who have the complete style you wish to emulate? Bee from Marisa and my latest obsession Atlantic-Pacific is exactly that. These two looks are her most recent, and I couldn't be more obsessed with literally every aspect, especially because we share the similar need to wear large cat eye sunnies everywhere. All I want are bright colors right now, it's soo extremely hot out already and I need summer more than anything. Happy thursdays my loves!

Sydney Fashion Week inspires

Isn't just the greatest when you find one snapshot that encapsulates everything you currently love and everything you hope to emulate? This sort of picture seems to jump out and say Hey, I get you. It seems to almost fully represent you as a person. This reminds me of a certain Gatsby quote:
"It faced-or seemed to face-the whole external world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself."

I digress. . .I'm not referring to Gatsby's charismatic smile here, and I'm only talking about one street style picture out of gazillions of street style pictures.

In case you haven't already guessed. . .here is my example of said snapshot:

from http://www.style.com/
I'm not sure is there is anything I dislike about this look, but alas here is what I adore:

1. the vibrant coral/tomato of her sweater and pants
2. the impeccable high-waisted fit of the pants
3. stripes. need I say more?
4. the apparent, but not in-your-face pointy collar
5. the statement cocktail rings
6. the sturdy handbag
7. her hair. . . could it be any more gorgeous. I'm always envious of a well-executed middle part, and her tousled waves are so nonchalant. In the best way possible.

May Daze

Holy smokes since when was it already May? Time is certainly flying by bringing us all closer to those summer months and... drum roll please... summer clothes! I am so so psyched to rid myself of the bulky layers and I have already started to develop some of my fave spring/early summer favorites.
I don't buy anything but pastel nail polishes these days. This one from forever21 is the perfect shade of light minty green.
When all else fails... go tribal. I love the boxy shapelessness of the two tops on the left, they are insanely comfortable yet dressy at the same time. The dress was a gift, and I am obsessed with the front zipper and open back.
It's no secret that crop tops are having an insane come back right now. Sara pairs her perfect b/w striped crop top with dark wash denim shorts (my friends were all really into getting their pictures taken if you couldn't tell by the expressions). I know I will be living in crop tops this summer paired with high wasted shorts and pencil skirts.

Up-and-comers Middle Brother are all the rage in Rolling Stone and I now know why. Reminiscent of The Kinks, they are the perfect summer band for relaxing at the pool or beach. Also listen to Blue Eyes or Middle Brother off of their recently released first album for more enjoyment.

where our love ends, my end begins

After reading about Dirty Gold in the music issue of Teen Vogue recently, I eagerly looked them up and kind of fell in love. They are my age, native Californians, and very reminiscent of Vampire Weekend (had they grown up in San Diego, and had they started their band in high school)
This music video for California Sunrise makes me want 1.) it to be summer. like this second. 2.) to live in the height of 50's/60's California surf culture

On a more sartorial note, notice the super flattering bright swimsuits on all of the girls.
