Barbara

Like most Americans, I am obsessed with Glee. This week after they danced to one of my fave Duck Sauce songs Barbara Streisand I felt the need to post the video. It's fun and quirky and above all extremely inspiring fashion wise, there's so many different people, colors, and textures (and some Kanye, which I always appreciate). A lot of people get their fashion inspiration from icons or magazines, but I just love to incorporate the different things I see on normal people in the real world every day, I truthfully couldn't name one person that is my "style inspiration". That's probably why I post so many street style looks on here, there's just a whole new level of beauty in things that are real and tangible.

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” - Coco Chanel

Eclectic State of Mind

So far it's been quite an enjoyable spring break and I have successfully avoided the reality of APs/school in general until today. Before I sign off to begin studying, I wanted to share a few snapshots of my current mental state. (Instagram is changing my life as we speak)

an almost empty Carpinteria beach

new H & M earrings

my scratched and well-loved Urban Outfitters shades

a new color my mom and I are sharing ( Nice is Nice )

my new gold Sperry Top-Siders that I am obsessed with. . .possibly the most comfortable shoes ever made

Spring Awakening

In the spirit of effortless, light spring dresses that are not overtly pastel or Easter egg themed, I came across this dress on www.orlakiely.com, a super cute British site that my mom found. (their only shop is in London. . .worth a pilgrimage? quite possibly.)
details here

Such a universally flattering, classic silhouette in extravagant yet understated cream organza. Simultaneously Mad Men and I Love Lucy.

The company's spring/summer 2011 collection film is so decadent, irreverent and nostalgic. Watch it here

Got It At The Getty

It was the first day of spring break yesterday and instead of hitting the beach or pool like our fellow high school seniors, we decided to venture into the city and pay a visit to The Getty Museum. We spent a few hours wandering through the museum seeing Van Gough and Monet, admiring the incredible gardens and view, and then finished it all off with some desert at Diddy Riese in Westwood. Heading home on PCH couldn't have been more beautiful on such a clear and sunny day.

I love the feeling of finally getting to wear a favorite spring dress because the weather permits! I got this navy floral embroidered tunic last summer and I'm obsessed with how girly it is.

Sara's vintage Dooney and Bourke bag is to die for. Still in impeccable condition.
She inherits the most gorgeous pieces from her grandmother.
Already 5'10'', she wears those five inch wedges and towers above us all, gets comments on her height from the museum curators, and looks absolutely fabulous doing so. Talk about owning your height and making it work, Sara has got it down to an art.

Primavera

Spring has sprung. . .almost. Spring break starts in 1 day. I repeat, 1 day until my fellow captives (ahem, students) and I are set free. In celebration of this fact, besides the surrounding holidays, I have created this vibrant inspiration board with the help of http://www.polyvore.com/.

Although most of these items are just a tad outside my price range, I believe dreaming is crucial step on the way to building a good wardrobe.

Taste of The Tuileries

I am sad to say it but lately I have been in a major fashion slump. Spring is at hand and although I should be loving this beautiful new season and all its fun loving fashion glory, I have been somewhat uninspired to say the least and haven't had a spare moment to solve this problem. HOWEVER, after a nice trip to style.com and some video perusing this afternoon, my spirits were immediately lifted by these three women and their takes on fashion, femininity, style, and beauty. They put it better than I ever could (especially Giovanna), and it brings me hope to know that no matter how uninspired I might be, it always just keeps coming back. These girls make me remember why I started loving fashion in the first place.

ps. I wrote an essay using The Rachel Zoe Project as evidence for the benefits of television in my english class last week and today my teacher read it to the class as an example of a paper with "strong evidence". Casually just a benefit of being a RZ fan, made my day.

April Fools

Hey lovers I have finally returned from a week long illness that left me lifeless to say the least. Luckily, antibiotics are my savior and I am back in action accompanied by a deap raspy voice as the only evidence of my week of death. Just some updates fashion wise that I have missed out on sharing over the past few days.
1. Marisa and I went to the lovely prom and opted for these looks. I wore this fully sequined and beaded vintage inspired BCBG Max Azria dress that was definitely eye catching, I became a disco ball every time the light hit me haha.

2. I am really lusting after this beach spread in H&M Magazine and feeling truly inspired. Totes feelin' a beach photoshoot coming on complete with all white attire, crochet vests included.
 3. Whenever I'm feeling under the weather, a nice trip over to Mr.Newton for some street style blog obsessing definitely helps. I love this young lady's youthful curls, clean cut lines and stripes, the red lip pop, and breezy demenour. The outfit is perfection and so beyond wearable, I plan on emulating it.
 4. Jak&Jil provided me with these pieces of art. So edgy and sleek it's in wearing these shoes that you confront the fact that fashion is usually the opposite of comfort - and it is so worth it.

Oooh La La Opening Ceremony

As if Opening Ceremony wasn't already the definition of all things cool/glorious/edgy/right now the Spring 2011 collection is out of control versatile and gorgeous. Here is the lookbook from Fashion Gone Rogue. view the entire collection here.

As a major stripe lover, this dress speaks to my soul. . .a super flattering cut doesn't hurt either

The length and slouchy structure of the sweater is so unexpected and eclectic with the suede fringe feel of the dress

I love the mix of patterns and genres in this look is so inspiring

The impeccable fit, slit and stripey perfection makes this a classic

So non-chalantly Moroccan/downtown

Hope everyone had a good weekend!
