No Walls

hurricane drunk

I've recently been searching for the right pair of colored jeans (bright or muted, I haven't decided yet). They have all of the versatility of standard issue blue denim, but with the instant statement of an unexpected color. This look is centered around these exuberant Current/Elliot jeans. (I couldn't resist those cheetah brogues) I  love adding super glam jewelry like these totally major diamond earrings to an otherwise laid-back outfit. To me, dressing in an expressive, interesting way always means maintaining a certain amount of contrast or tension. A.k.a never look like you could be in head-to-toe of any brand or like you are in a catalog. Unless that catalog is J. Crew. Shoutout to Jenna Lyons!

Blatant shoutouts aside, I think at this point in time everyone has heard or heard of Florence and the Machine. Not to sound like a wannabe hipster, but I'd like to say that I'm part of the group that knew about her before a lot of other kids, and get slightly (if unjustifiably) annoyed when people who consider Dynamite by Taio Cruz to be a great song suddenly claim that Dog Days Are Over (by Florence and the Machine) is their favorite song everrr. My point in ranting was to say that although I think she deserves all of the credit and fame she is getting for songs like Dog Days, some of her lesser known songs deserve a little listening to as well.
Hence. . .

Some Summer

Unfortunately forgot my camera for this little outing, but yesterday the girls and I hit up Bottega Louie for dinner downtown. My photographer (brother) manages to not get the entirety of outfits in photos, so I snuck a quick shoe shot that may or may not have a dog bootie in it. Happy summer! It is glorious outside that is for sure.

Shining Spiral Eyes

So enamored with the detail on this Urban Outfitters skirt. Simultaneously prim/proper and summer whimsy. I think it would pair quite nicely with wedges or sandals, a silky sleevless top and a lightweight blazer now, and dark tights, layers, moto boots and a utilitarian jacket come fall/winter. Buy it/check out the deets here

Hope everyone's summer is off to a lovely start.

This band is just the business

Parlez-vous français?

Yesterday I was lucky enough to get to see Midnight in Paris with my twin/bestie and her adorable mom and sister. My twin is basically French herself, because she's actually been to the City of Light and can speak some French. (thanks to the fine foreign language department at our high school) I won't even get into how cool her dad's job is, but basically it allows her parents to jet off to Paris to see the French Open. Because that's fair. It's ok, I'll get over it someday. Anyways, back to the film. It's enough to make any skeptical American an instant Francophile. With an incredible cast, great wardrobe and the most charming signature song, the movie captures the idea of nostalgia in a compelling, yet almost tongue-in-cheek way.

P.S. We (by we I mean, my twin) made vanilla macaroons with boysenberry buttercream yesterday after the movie. Super super delicious. Easily comparable to Bottega Louie or Ladurée in taste. Speaking of Ladurée, their website is beyond cute. Take a peek here.

Love this song from (500)Days of Summer and as it happens, Carla Bruni is in Midnight in Paris

So this summer all I want to wear are maxi skirts and turquoise. Random combo but on her it's working so well. This June gloom just needs to stop and I will be the happiest girl there is.

Summer Awakening

Although my summer began at 11:20 AM on Wednesday, the weather has decided to stubbornly settle in for a nice bit of June gloom. I don't think this should stop us from trying to channel Anna Dello Russo to celebrate the season. As this is graduation/wedding season, this look featuring a fab Erdem dress would more than suffice for both events. I also love the idea of adding a coral blazer any less-than-thrilling color combination. Although in this case, the Louboutins could probably pass the proverbial thrill test. I've seen oversize clutches all over the blogosphere for a while now, and I'm so in love with this versatile leather version.

Favorites Squared

This week has been the busiest thing ever, but finals are over and I'm done with high school forever so I can not help but be joyous/stunned.  This little square of photos represents all my faves right now.

Perfect aqua cutoff corduroy shorts, nice and long to be super unsexy and classy this summer.
The lace details on my graduation dress. Creamy white and virginal, so good so good.
I spray coconut body spray on everything! It smells like summer. This is my go to mini bottle from Victorias Secret.
Last day of school shenanigans in parochial uniforms and pumps. Practicing graduating and what not.

Fills a Void

This is what I've been doing instead of studying for finals. Infinitely smarter, no? Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Academic rebelliousness aside, I was perusing Polyvore and came up with this dandy little outfit. I've seen these Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony boots everywhere and finally decided that I'm seriously coveting them along with the rest of the world. Although floral prints can very quickly verge into grandma/upholstery territory, I think this blazer strikes the right balance. And aren't these seafoam shorts just the business? Even though the YSL clutch casually costs more than what's in my savings account right now, the pop of tomato red totallly invigorates an otherwise muted look. The tortoise-shell glasses lend a South of France circa 1927 vibe that I can't even get over.

I Am My Hair

Bow shot? Not awkward at all...
So today I reached a new level of embarrassment: I used photobooth to take photos for this blog. My camera is currently locked in my car and I am being lazy and decided to go the lame way and resort to photobooth.
THERE WAS A POINT TO THIS, FOLKS, I will explain. I wanted to show case this amaze burnt orange blousy little top I recently purchased from my favorite boutique Frenzy (a safe haven in my suburban world of strip malls). Also, I would like to point out the irony in that I am wearing a giant cream bow that dates back to 1997, my childhood days of course. Mixing old with new. It's ironic, get it?
Maybe not, but these saucy photos are deeply regretted, apologies for sub par quality. Happy happy wednesday, betches <3
Of course I have to make a shout out to my mother monster and goddess GaGa, whose album came out this week. Hair, one of my faves, is literally the story of my life. Would you like to know why? I was voted "most likely to forget their natural hair color" by my high school yearbook. Such an honor to be remembered by, I have decided to embrace it.
